This week’s “oldie but goodie” is “You Are So Beautiful”. Known to most people as a hit song by Joe Cocker, it was written by Billy Preston and Bruce Fisher. And, it was recorded first by Billy Preston.
The song was first released in 1974 on Preston's ninth studio album, The Kids & Me. Later that same year, Joe Cocker released a slower version of the song on his album I Can Stand a Little Rain. Cocker's version was released as a single in November 1974. It became Cocker's highest-charting solo hit.
According to Joe Cocker’s Official YouTube account:
Producer Jim Price knew it was perfect for Joe and brought it to him.
Joe was feeling uninspired at the time, but the song revived him and became a catalyst for his album I Can Stand a Little Rain.
